Welcome to Kildare and West Cork for 2025
Ireland is the most westerly island in Europe. It is 450 km long and 300 km wide and is divided into the Republic of Ireland. Ireland enjoys a rich diversity of ethnic groups and cultures. English is spoken by everyone in Ireland and in some areas Irish is spoken also!
Dublin, capital of the Republic of Ireland, is on Ireland’s east coast at the mouth of the River Liffey. Its historic buildings include Dublin Castle, dating to the 13th century, and imposing St Patrick’s Cathedral, founded in 1191. City parks include landscaped St Stephen’s Green and huge Phoenix Park, containing Dublin Zoo. The National Museum of Ireland explores Irish heritage and culture.
Kildare is just 45 minutes from Dublin. The central Curragh plain is horse-breeding territory. Here, the Irish National Stud farm is known for its Horse Museum and Japanese Gardens. Nearby, Curragh Racecourse holds regular events. Kildare town is home to St. Brigid’s Cathedral, with a 12th-century round tower that offers panoramic views. Heather and gorse top the Bog of Allen’s peatlands to the north. Drawn as if by a magnet, visitors come again and again, captivated by this most special of Irish counties. Also if you love designer shopping, a visit to the magnificent Kildare Shopping Village is a must! Ireland enjoys relatively cool summers. Daily temperature in July and August is on average 17 °C. Ireland enjoys reasonable sunshine with unpredictable rain showers. These showers generally don’t last long, but recommended you have an umbrella or light rain gear to hand!
Bandon in breathtaking West Cork is a small but busy market town on the River Bandon, and a great region for angling. It has some of the most fertile lands in the West Cork area with beautiful beaches and Cork City and Cork airport just 35 minutes away and three hours from Dublin. Enjoy a walk through Bandon town and call into one of its cafés and enjoy a coffee and some locally produced confectionery. If you happen to be in Bandon on a Saturday morning, visit Bandon’s Farmers Market where you can purchase everything from Olives, a variety of artisan breads, locally grown vegetables, chocolate and cheeses!

FOOD & ACCOMMODATION
All Teenage Stage Summer School locations are well regarded for their superior level of pastoral care and residential comfort. We partner with some of Ireland's leading boarding schools giving a sense of great care for students and for parents, peace of mind while away from home.
Students live together in comfortable boarding houses; boys and girls of similar age in separate houses. Each House is looked after by an experienced Centre Manager and a team of designated chaperones which create a happy and supportive “family style” environment.
Students live in rooms, normally of 2 beds or same gender dormitories. Houses are well-equipped with social areas providing games rooms, computer rooms, etc. Students are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their families at home.
Dining facilities and a full and varied menu of ‘international style’ food is provided. For lunch and dinner, there is a choice of hot dishes and a vegetarian/vegan option, salad bar provided. Fresh fruit is offered at every meal and is available during the day with rehearsals.
Boys and girls attend meals together. Lunches are informal and each day, students are allocated to a table where they sit with a staff member or different students. This helps all students, regardless of age and nationality, to make friends and to learn more about the theatre and the course.
At ‘ Hot Chocolate Time’ just before bed-time, students come together in their dorms over hot chocolate for a chat about the day’s rehearsal and events. In addition to being an important social point of the day, this also allows staff to check that each student is well, relaxed and happy.
